I have been reading \"The Two of Us\" - very moving - and just happened to switch on the tv and saw your face. It was a hospital soap. I don\'t think I\'ve ever watched a soap in my life but your performance was gripping, and was one of the best I\'ve seen in years.\r\nYou showed a lot of courage to accept the part, considering the subject matter.\r\nVery well done, and I\'d be very surprised not to see the performance nominated for awards.

If only I were sufficiently eloquent to express how much I have gained from your two books. I read them after I bought the books for my mother. When I found I loved them equally, we purchased them on audio CD, which really brought them to life. I continue to listen to them nearly every night. I know they were great comfort to my mother too after she lost my father who, on the surface, was not unlike John. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing.

Dear Sheila I'm writing an article about the ill-fated actor Victor Henry but have not been able to find out much about his early life, although I understand he was born in Leeds and later studied at RADA.As writers have compared his talent with the likes of Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay, surely an appreciation of his brief period of success is long overdue. Any memories which you might like to share would be so deeply appreciated. Best wishes Brian Davidson

Just finished your book \'The Two Of Us\' it has certainly made me think. Was always a fan of your work when I lived in England and also a great fan of your husband John. I emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1969. Wish I had known about your books earlier. Had similar medical issues as you had which was a struggle. Also have a crippled left foot so can identify with John as regards to that. My ex husband is dying and I have written down some of the inspirational words from your book for my daughter to read for his eulogy.\r\nThought a lot about Dolly as I left my daughter with my ex husband when she was 13 as I didn\'t quite know what I was doing or where I would be living so didn\'t want to uproot her life from school or friends. It caused a lot of anguish and 40 years later I still feel guilty but we are very close and I believe she forgave me after a few months. You were very brave to write a warts n all book, it wasn\'t sugar coated and you left your reader knowing some of the despair you went through at the time of John\'s illness. I have ordered \'Just Me\' can\'t wait. Good Luck Sheila X

Hi Sheila - I just wondered if you knew my gran's brother, Ronald Kerr. He went to RADA before you and was a director of rep theatre. I would love to hear yes/no whether you knew him. I have just read your book, 'Miss Carter's War' which was really interesting. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Sheila, I hope this finds you well. As a member of Burnley Rotary Club I was helping a friend of mine clear his house when he was down-sizing and came across what I perceive to be a rather good oil painting of John taken from what I assume was a publicity poster from one of his many plays. It is approx 15 x 12 inches and I find it to be rather striking. I was wondering if you would like me to send it to you, (at no cost what-so-ever to yourself) as I am sure this would be of some interest to you and your family. Look forward to hearing from you. Yours in Rotary (Burnley) Bill PS. If you wish I could photograph the painting and email this to you.

Dear Miss Hancock / Sheila, Miss Carter's War is one of the best books I have read in I don't know how long. Apart from a very moving story it is an amazing social history of post war England. I am a few years younger than you but the 'terribly nice' girls grammar school is a mirror image of mine, plonked down in west London suburb with a dowdy and fussy school uniform, starchy, prim female teachers but a bit more going on than you realised Miss Davies our Geography teacher emigrated to Canada with Miss Vigor the PE teacher! Keep on writing please, I absolutely loved it, thank you. Chris B

Dear Sheila, \r\nI have just read The Two of Us. I had no idea that the lovely John Thaw suffered with depression. I too have suffered bouts of depression and can only that say that it is wretched for both the sufferer and the loved ones. I have been a huge fan of you both and can only imagine how difficult it must have been at times for you. Bless you Sheila, you are a lovely lady! With love Yvonne x

Hi, Sheila, I just read The Two Of Us. I lost my partner Judy Dinning to breast cancer in October 2013 and your book has really helped. Some of the poems you included struck a chord, but the most important part for me was how to start to cope with grief and how to continue, which is almost an hourly battle. Judy was a well known folk singer and so I have lots of her music around and videos. This is at once fantastic to have all around, and inescapable, not that I want to escape!Must be even more so for you, given John's continued profile. Your entry for 16th September hit the nail on the head. Thanks again, and by the way, don't ever think you've stopped being sexy!

Dear Sheila Hancock, good day. I am raising funds for my human flight project. ~ Shortly I will be making a light-weight version of my U.K. patented flying and gliding garment (an innovative type of hang-glider) then I want to learn to fly. I need to buy, lease or be gifted a small field in or around Oxfordshire so I can practice as a grass roots artist, using safety netting and padding. Then all being well, film and publish my pursuits as a special human interest story, and promote towards the sport and leisure sector for others to enjoy. If you can please help with a kind donation by cheque to my address or via my Paypal link I would most grateful. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=PLP6WEGGRZJMU and if so please do send me a good luck message so I may thank you. *I am an individual, not a charity, but it is precisely due to the 'unusual nature' of my request that I ask you to please consider making an exception as my work is a fascinating subject and a cause worthy of support. Very best wishes, Susan Atkins. writer/inventor smatkins1966@gmail.com 21 Abbey woods Close, Berinsfield, Wallingford, Oxon, OX10 7QD.

Hi Sheila, don\'t think this is the best way to contact you, I am a relation to John Thaw and just as I was looking through old photographs of my family from years and years ago, I found a photo album of some of Johns old relatives from 1935, we aren\'t too sure who they are, all it says on the back is \'Gerg-Thaw\', don\'t know if that means anything to you.

My Name is Juliet Adrian,i live in California,i have a big testimony to say to the people who have Womb problem, I have been married for five years without any child, nor pregnancy and so i became very sad and lost hope in life because my doctor told me there is no way for me to get pregnant and this really make life so hard for me and this made my husband to turn away from me.My sister in-law told me about Dr Erigo from the Internet, how he has helped people with this similar problem that i am going through so i contacted him and explained to him. He told me not to worry and that everything we soon be okay.He cast a spell and it was a miracle to my greatest surprise three days later my husband came back to apologize for all he has done and told me he is fully ready to support me in any thing i want, and Dr Erigo he gave me just soup from his temple and he also gave my husband some thing to rub before we made love.just few months later i got pregnant and gave birth to twins (boy and girl) we are now a happy family.i will advice you to email him now:erigospellcaster@gmail.com I am so happy!! if you also need help to get pregnant or need your ex back please contact him for help via email:erigospellcaster@gmail.com if you are out there passing through any of this problems or predicaments in your life.his mobile number on what/apps:+2348071622371

Have just finished Miss Carter's War, what a great book. As an expat I love books set in England, and this book covers such a lot of our memories, from music to food to fashion plus political events it was a page turner. Well done! Of course we remember you from film and TV, and we were also great fans of John Thaw. Hope you write another novel.

Just read Miss carters war.\r\nWonderful stuff!\r\nBorn 1937 I shared so many of those memories and you filled in so many of the gaps in the social history of UK I\'d missed when my family went to Kenya 1952-62.\r\nAlso since we emmigrated to N.Zealand in 1973.\r\nSo much of Miss carters story resonated with me-\r\nThank you so much - you\'ve given me fresh material for my own memoirs. We even had a wartime \"French connection\" and I was a \"grammar grub\"!!7724

It's one of those hot sultry afternoons in Menerbes and I'm looking out at the Luberon hills. Once travelling here some years ago my husband, John Soars, approached you at Gatwick airport to congratulate you on 'The two of us', which we had both enjoyed reading. My John, like yours, is now dead, lung cancer, 3 years ago, age 60. Since then I have often used you as a role model and drawn strength from your life and words. There are some parallels, I'll list a few. John was younger than me, 6 years; he was an alcoholic with all that that entails, but stopped drinking after rehab; we have 4 children between us, one called Joanna; we worked together, we wrote (I still do) a series of successful text books (Headway) for OUP - an English language series - hence we have worked a lot in Oxford. We received MBEs not long before John's death. All of the above just to illustrate why hearing about your life and sanity have helped/are helping me through some tough times. I have a wonderful and loving family, 7 grandchildren now, but their lives are their lives and I love them all dearly but I need to continue forging a life of my own. I have many good friends too. One line I often quote from you. You were in conversation with Piers Morgan and he asked if you could envisage another relationship - your answer with big sigh: 'Oh. Piers, I just couldn't be bothered.' So thank you very much Sheila Hancock Liz Soars PS I'm reading 'Miss Carter's War' at the moment.

Hi Sheila, \r\nI\'ve just finished reading your book \'The Two of Us My Life With John Thaw.\' It was lent to me by my sister. \r\nWhat a beautiful, thought-provoking story you have told. I\'m 63 (and gay) and connected with so much of what you say. Unfortunately, I\'ve never had a partner and have lived life in a different way than yourself, however I can see so many parallels. I, like yourself, am disturbed by \'the World\' today. It is ugly and sad in so many ways. \r\nAll the very best to you.\r\nWith love to you,\r\nKeith Walters.\r\nPS I loved \'The Rag Trade\' and saw Peter Jones live on stage.

I have just watched your programme on the Brontes and after I went with a friend to visit some weeks back I wrote a poem you might enjoy. The Moors - & Charlotte Bronte How still and silent the land lies Awaiting its awakening, For when the wind wuthers Then it seems to be alive. To be alone on the moors Is not to be alone; For as the wind brushes my cheeks I feel at one, in touch with nature No longer an outsider but part of Its raw ruggedness. I too am set free Not constrained by walls Be they those of the house Or of the mind. I am a woman alone, Yet not yet grown enough To be the mistress of my fate. Inside I am still a child That’s seeks the solitude And freedom that it brings. I care not for muddy boots or skirt I care not for rain and dirt But I do care that I can be Myself, and therefore free. By the bridge where the waterfall descends Rising and rippling, slow then faster as it bends Bound by the landscape that holds it in its descent Safe, secure as if ‘twas always meant to be. Though dormant, it is alive as shadows from the clouds Darken patches like unseen hands that lay on shrouds. Late evening light in Winter is the best As the sun sinks slowly in the West Kaleidoscopic colours create a show Brightening the land with an orange glow Before the setting of the sun And then I know that darkness is to come. This land to be me will always be a lure For it is ever gentle and pure.

\r\nAMAZING TESTIMONY..After being in a relationship with him for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I e-mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before four days, that my ex will return to me. he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem. Anybody could also need the help of the spell caster for, LOVE SPELL , MONEY,PROTECTION, GOOD JOB,PROMOTION, EX LOVER BACK, WIN LOTTERY LOTTO SPELLS,LOTTERY SPELL,JACKPOT win on either a scratch off ticket, MONEY VOODOO SPELLS, CONTACT Dr Ogundu all your pains will be over today on his email: drogunduspellcaster@gmail.com\r\n\r\n

I have just finished reading Miss Carters War and what memories it invoked in me. when I was about 9 or 10 my Mother worked in the food Office in Erith and became friends with your mother who was working at that time in Mitchells Department Store from where she arranged tickets for us to see your sister Billie performing in "Where the rainbow ends" the first time I had been to a West end show I think it was at Drury Lane, It instilled in me a great love of live theatre especially Musicals. when I passed the 11+ after a gruelling interview with Miss Fryer your Mother kindly handed down to me some of your outgrown school uniform. Miss Belcher was my first form teacher in 1A and she scared me to death. My Mother had previously attended the same school and Miss Lewin and Miss Pope had been teachers there in her time. When you starred in the school play St. Joan I was one of the little girls who had to dress as a boy, I also took a part in He that shall come another school play in which you starred Although I was never a political activist I shared Miss Carters hatred of violence.I have a son who is homosexual who teaches Drama at Colfes School and is also a director of many of the local Amateur Drama groups in the North Kent area.I now live in Australia but keep in touch with Dartford via Facebook. your book was a mothers day present from my family along with tickets to Les Mis I could not have wished for more. Keep writing your books are great

Hi Sheila Just read your novel & thought it quite wonderful. It was especially pertinent to read soon after the election & having read your description of the young queens coronation (Iwas four) on the same day that I watched her open parliament & read that horrible speech. I am the great niece of Bert & Daisy Giles who you stayed with during the war. I have lived most of the last 30 years in the Lake District but will soon be returning to Wallingford to care for my mother. She is almost 94 but amazinglt fit & well. She was in the WAAFS when you were with Aunt Daisy but remembers you & your sister Billie very well as do a number of my cousins. I could tell you a few stories that would mke you smile ! Wallingford is quite a big town these days but has not lost its character. I have a strong sense of going home. Please don't retire . You are a fab writer, an excellent actress & always interesting & entertaining. with every good wish Cindy

Hello Ms Hancock, Just to say how interesting it was to hear your view on 'What makes us human' last week on the radio. As you probably know the sentiments you expressed form many of the core beliefs of the philosophy of Anarchism, long since derided and attacked by the State and it's servants. You expressed the views in a way which may touch many of the people and stimulate their interest in developing themselves into more self confident and respecting individuals. Well done indeed. Kind Regards, Johnny

Hello Shelia. I heard you on the radio today with Vanessa Felps taking about John sadly dieing. I also lost my husband 3yrs ago to the dreaded cancer. The way you were speaking about your loss could of been me talking ! Every thing you were saying was so true & I started to cry as I felt that I wasn't the only one who felt like that, like you I find it very hard being on my own, I don't have any children & a very small family, so I really do feel alone. I have good friend, but none of them have gone through what we have & they don't understand. I just wanted to thank you for making me feel that I'm not alone in the way I feel & think. - thank you Vanessa

A strange request,I know but my brother saw an interview you did a while ago and fell in love with the chair you were sitting in, It was high backed with wings in a candy stripe fabric. He is an amazing and generous son and brother and, as he turns 50 this july, our family would like to get him a copy of this chair as a surprise, so I wondered, if you didnt think it too cheeky to ask, if you would mind telling us where you got it from?

Hi Sheila i know this is a long shot and i do apologise for my frankness but my daughter has managed to secure a place at both London School Of Musical Theatre and Mountview Academy.Do you happen to know of any organisations that could help her with finance as there is no funding available. She feels very disheartened by the fact that sheer effort and passion for performing does not allow her to further herself due to a lack of financial back up.I would appreciate and be so grateful for your advice many thanks

Dear Sheila, Oh how I wish I had read your book 'The Two of Us' so much earlier. I have just finished it and found it inspirational. I was struck by the parallels between your life with John and the lives of my mother and father who both passed away at around the same time. Depression, alcoholism and the beast cancer all played a part. I as the oldest son had to be the strong one and am just coming to the realization that I never came to terms with my own grief and loss, trying to be the rock for everyone else to rely on. I lost my faith, particularly through seeing my mother, who had never harmed a fly, ripped apart by cancer. It seems that whatever walk of life we are a part of, our lives and sufferings are often similar, and whether we be actors or road sweepers, we find solace in our friends, our colleagues and our families. Anyway, thank you for a wonderful read, I hope you are happy, successful and content for the rest of your days. X

I have just finished "Just Me" with tears running down my face. I can relate to so much of this book. My husband John died in December 2010 aged 62 (there goes Dad mucking up Christmas again said one of my sons) I have travelled on my own four times since then and must admit it took a while to get over the guilt of having a good time without him, but that is life. Revisiting London was hard and I was glad to be alone when I did. I could cry as much as I liked. Like your John, mine was a complex man, tender one minute and in an absolute rage about everything and nothing the next. Life wasn't dull. He was generous to a fault but a very quiet and shy man as well. I do envy you something though. I have recently realised that I can't remember what his voice sounded like. If only I could just pop in a DVD and play it to remember. I loved "Miss Carter's War" as well.

Hi, I am organising a summer raffle on behalf of Holy Cross Primary School in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, and was really hoping that you might be able to offer a small piece of signed merchandise or even a signed photograph as a prize please? Your help really would be appreciated. I know that you probably get many requests like this but they are a great bunch of kids who will really benefit from the money that we raise. If you can help could you please send the prize to Kirsty Ruth (PTA), Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, Millfield Avenue, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, England PO32 6AS. Thank you so much for any help you can offer us. Kindest regards Kirsty

I have just read The Two of Us & wish I'd done so before my mother died July 2014, she had lost my dad 6years before that after 67years married. She had been housebound over a year before he died. The way you put into words how you felt at your loss made more real what mum must have felt. Looking back she was an absolute saint, a prisoner in her flat, me her only child, 70miles away, reliant on public transport to get to her. If I had read your words before I am sure I would have had more understanding & compassion for her situation. As it was my memories of a husband were of mental abuse, not love, relief that I was out of marriage. Too late now for my lovely mum, but hopefully I can keep it in mind for other situations. Thank you for the unintentional prompt.

I am Connor Robert from Scotland I have been playing euro million since i was 15 and i have never won and i decided to stop instead of i wasting my money in buying ticket. One day i saw a friend who told me that there is a spell caster in Africa that can help win this lottery he was so sure of it but what keep him wondering is that he was not sure if he can make me win big. I say let me give a try because i was so curious in becoming a millionaire so that flint round bitches. I decided to give a try and he assure me in 3days i will get result and immediately i went to buy ticket with the number he sent me and i did just that so for sure in 3days time result was out and i was a winner of ÂŁ2million. I could not rejoice too much cause i was expecting this but was not sure if it really work but now that i have tested it and it work i will forever be grateful to this spell caster and my friend. When i went to show appreciation to him, he told me that he is here to help people who are in needs. The offer to show appreciation to this man is to spread his name across the world so that people will be helped and that is the reason i am online. Do not waste time the email is templeofpermanenthealing@hotmail.com he is the only help you need.

Dear Sheila Thank you so very much for the beautifully presented programme I have just watched about the Brontes. At last a truer representation of the sisters and from many sources. It was a joy and I was crying before you ended the programme as you hoped with all your heart to convey with the last words of Wuthering heights the slumbers of the Brontes. I knew what you were about to read as it's is my very favourite book. Many thanks again Sheila. Best wishes Helen Martin Edinburgh

Dear Sheila I am a Macmillan nurse who works withe individuals who have oesophageal and gastric cancers.I have been doing this work for 18 years and am so passionate about my work. A few Upper Gi cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists met last week in London. We are desperately trying to raise the profile of this group of cancers in order to raise the research profile. We as nurses are setting up a National UGI cancer nurses forum in order to work together for patients. By raising the profile and launching countrywide work shops, it is hoped research will improve for UGI cancers. We are aware you lost John to this cancer and as a group were wondering if you would kindly consider being involved in some way with our group. We understand you are terribly busy , but it would only involve one of two appearances with our first AGM meeting which is October of this year in October. We would also be highly honoured if you would consider being a patron for the group. I promise you we are not expecting loads of work and appearances, but just one appearance if you could spare the time would be absolutely magnificent and if you would like to consider being a patron , well that would just be worth the world. We understand if you feel you cannot help us, for whatever reason, but if you could kindly let me know that would be fantastic . Kind Regards Bernadette Fairley at the Queen Elizabeth hospital Birmingham

Hello there Sheila. It is most unusual for me to write to a celebrity such as yourself, and we're it not that I had suffered a particularly vicious stroke in April of this year, I doubt I would have ever. You see, my recovery has been greatly enhanced by watching John, in Morse, Kavanagh QC & Goodnight Mr Tom, a beautiful, if not slightly disturbing storyline which you will know, John played with the appropriate measure of skill. I am presently reading your book, The two of us, and enjoying finding out about his ways. All the best for 2015 Sheila, and God bless you and all of those that you cherish as your own.. Take good care of yourself. Thanks if you found time to read this. David

Following on from reading your great book "Just Me", I read your bestseller "The Two of Us". I had no idea that the contents of "The Two of Us" included your experiences with your husband's alcoholism. I would like to thank you wholeheartedly for "The Two of Us". I really enjoyed the book and some of it's contents became life changing for me. My mother was an alcoholic and for about 45 years of my life, I felt guilty for my views on my mother's alcoholism. However, on reading your book, I discovered that your views, as expressed, were exactly the same as my views. I identified with most, if not all of your situations as you described in "The Two of Us". I am so pleased to have discovered. Thank you so much Sheila.

Me and my husband have been trying for a baby for over three years now, We were going to a fertility clinic for about 8 months before somebody told us to contact this spell caster who is so powerful, We contacted him at this email arewaspecialistttemple@gmail.com I copied the email and I sent him a mail he replied me and I told me all my sorrow is over, but after three years of trying we were at a point where we were willing to try anything. And I'm glad we came to Dr Dahiru, Because his pregnancy spell cast put us at ease, and I honestly believe him, and his gods really helped us as well, I am thankful for all he has done, he then told me that I should wipe my tears with such comforting words he told me to buy some items that his going to use to cast the pregnancy spell I did and he made the spell for me and told me when next I meet with my husband I we conceive,at first I thought it was a scam but I just followed my inner mind and I sent the money for him to buy all the items after some months I went to check with my doctor and I was 4weeks pregnant, thanks to Dr Dahiru spell temple,I want to use this medium to tell everyone having similar problem. contact him via email: arewaspecialistttemple@gmail.com if you are trying to get a baby or want your lover back. he has powers to do it, he has done mine,

I read a piece in the express around scouting for a care home. It doesn't have to be that way. you can set up private care in your own home. This means aging on your own terms with a little dignity. If you feel the urge to have a private chat email me, be glad to help. George

I have just finished \"Miss Carter\'s War\". I really enjoyed it although appreciated is probably a better word. The characters really came to life. Is Tony based on Sheila\'s good friend? I learned so much about the start of the comprehensive system of education. Most importantly the novel offered me a re-assessment of what is important- thank you!

Dear Sheila Having recently read your book 'The Two Of Us' I was charmed by your frank and honest approach. It was a thoroughly open and moving account however; one particular passage made me smile, your obsession with the lone magpie and your quest to see another. May I suggest a remedy, which I find quite useful. When I see a single magpie I cross my eyes, thus doubling the image and recite 'see a magpie, go cross eyed. If you get bad luck, at least you tried!'. I NEVER see a lone magpie. I'm not superstitious - just OCD. I wish you all the very best.

Dear Sheila, A friend heard you at the Peace History conference at the IWM in October, and had already read your 'Miss Carters War'. My friend contacted me as she thought you might be interested in letters between mother and daughter 1939 - 1950 that I am publishing online every Friday. The two were politically engaged, and the daughter as a 20 year old was working for the Ministry of Supply in Cairo after the war, as a shorthand typist, and then, still with the MoS at Porton, the British Chemical and Biological Warfare centre. This is the link lendarlinggirl.com My best best wishes, Pete.

As for a tank and the poppies, yes I can see what you mean. My mum's two brothers died in WW1, terrible. I might check out your new book :-)

Hi Sheila your idea of driving over the poppy display at the Tower of London is a great idea. My dad fought in the second world war and he never spoke about his time in the Navy and never allowed us to watch films that glorified war.

Hello Shiela, I have been listening to The Two of us on Radio 4extra. I have alway enjoyed both yours and Johns work. But listening to you talking about you and John, well I feel so envious. To meet and share a life with someone you love and they love you too is so special. And before that have a family that love you enough to support and encourage you when you are young must be amazing. You are blessed Shiela. I am going to go all out to be there for my grandchildren, Joe 4 years) and Harmony Rose,(9 months)and to make magic memories for them. I have turbulent memories of my marriage but no good ones. My thanks go out to you and John for helping me in my darkest times (especially when I was having Electric shock treatment in an old Victorian built pshychiatric hospital). Anyway, you put a smile back on my face just like my grandbabies do.X

Dear Sheila, I hope you don't mind me leaving a message, but I just wanted to say what a gifted actress and actor you and your husband John Thaw are. One of my favourites that your husband was in, was Good Night Mr Tom. I can watch the film over and over again. I think that both of you have and you still are a great inspiration to many.I grow up watching John Thaw on the TV and remember him well in the Sweeney with Denise Waterman and also as Inspector Morse.A very gifted couple. warm regards Marie Ideson

SEPARTELY a fan of BOTH yours and Johns... (NEVER really considered you as a COUPLE... SELFISHLY, as a CONSUMER (???) merely enjoying you both as Artists... Your book \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"The Two Of Us\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" touched my (broken) heart, (SHE didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t die BUT she DID pass on me..) and I RACED to read \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Just Me\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" which delighs more than your first fine offering... IF I MAY BE VERY BOLD AND FAMILIAR... What particularly delights is, as well as a novelists touch for the mood, story and phrase, (one can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t necessarily EXPECT this from a Thesbian...)is a WONDERFUL humanity, a soulfulness and YES a sexuality that reveals, illustrates, delights, inspires and SHINES... Such a PLEASURE to read your words you Lovely Girl... Congratulations, (if that\\\\\\\'s allowed!) xx SF

Hello, today on the Steve Wright Show you referred to your new heroine as a spinster. I was shocked! Please see below regarding the usage of this word in modern society! "The development of the word spinster is a good example of the way in which a word acquires strong connotations to the extent that it can no longer be used in a neutral sense. From the 17th century the word was appended to names as the official legal description of an unmarried woman: Elizabeth Harris of London, Spinster. This type of use survives today in some legal and religious contexts. In modern everyday English, however, spinster cannot be used to mean simply ‘unmarried woman’; it is now always a derogatory term, referring or alluding to a stereotype of an older woman who is unmarried, childless, prissy, and repressed". I don't think this is an accurate portrayal of your new character?! Good luck with the book!

Copy of my letter to the Director of the Guildford Book Festival: A friend and I came to hear about ‘Miss Carter’s War’ which we enjoyed and bought the book but the evening could have been so much better without the quite inept interviewer. Frankly she was like a damp squib - and always ‘letting the fire go out’. Sheila sensed immediately that she, this newspaper art critic - or whoever, would not be heard if she : "did not speak up”. She appeared not to be well prepared, had her head in her notes and slightly turned upstage away from the audience - very important people in the context of a Book Launch. It is a tribute to Sheila’s professionalism that she was so well received despite her obvious handicap in the shape of the tall young woman whose capabilities frankly did not measure up. We could all have come out on a high - instead of being ‘satisfied’ with reservations. I can assure you there were very many discontented mutterings. I should appreciate your reaction in due course. I appreciate that you must be currently very busy. Best wishes for the rest of the Festival, Jenny B

I just finished work after your interview in guildford about your new book. I am incredibly inspired not only because I am an inspiring actress myself but you as a person have brought a change in my life. Having anxiety and being an actress I found it so reassuring to know that you have had doubts throughout your career and needed reassurance. After talking to you at the end I was just completely in awe for you are so down to earth and encouraging. I just needed to thank you .

Hi Sheila.I think I may have entered my e-mail address incorrectly so I am trying again with a different one.In case it was totally lost in the ether I am repeating most of the content hoping that you may find time to reply. You left school at the end of the fifth year and went to RADA whilst I stayed on into the sixth form, went away to college and became a teacher.I lost contact with everyone so imagine my surprise to have Jose` walk into my classroom on a parents evening and to discover that, unknowingly,I had been teaching her son all year. There were 6 of us at school Vera, Barbara, Sheila, Wendy, Jose` and myself. I still have photos of the school production of St Joan when you took the lead with Wendy as your understudy and I struggled -with a sword- as Guy Earl of Warwick.Everyone seeing your performance knew that you would go on to achieve great things in the world of the theatre. I had a successful career in education, but a bad marriage. However I have 2 wonderful children and 4 grandchildren -all in their twenties now.I managed to pluck up the courage to leave my husband in 1988 but didn't divorce until about 15 years later. The whole story would read like a Mills and Boon book!!However I lead a very happy life now. Perhaps you will find time for some more personal reminiscing.I do hope so. Leslie.

I work for a charity called www.westbrookcommunitycare.co.uk . We watched you on BBC morning programme on 9.10.14 where you stated you were looking for new challenges. The charity is to help elderly people with loneliness and those with mental health issues. The website will give you more information. The reason I am writing to you - is we are looking for someone to be a patron of the charity. You are the 1st person I have approached and we would love to hear from you - You can contact Elaine the director or my self

I was very curious after watching you on BBC1. One comment hit a tune "looking for a plot". I always wanted to write my disatrous life & recovery beginning in Far East to UK. I will be 70 in a week. Thus far I have resisted this urge, having read your book I thought you will grasp the nettle & write a nice story. Yours Sincerely Old Romatic Fool

Hi Shelia.Do you remember lending me half a crown because I wanted to run away? It must have been in about 1948 and my parents wouldn't let me go to Denmark with a school gymnastic team.I think I managed to stay away from home for a couple of hours! There were 6 of us as I remember_Shelia and Wendy,Jose (with an accent on the e!!) and Leslie, Vera and Barbara. I still have a photograph of the school production of St Joan when I played Guy Earl of Warwick and you shared the lead with Wendy. We all knew then that you would go on to achieve great things in the world of the theatre. Are you still in touch with any of the others? You of course left school in 1949 to go to RADA but I stayed on into the sixth form and ended up as a teacher. Not very exciting but often very rewarding. My biggest surprise came on a parents evening when in walked Jose.Unknowingly I had been teaching her son all year!Life can be so strange.I would love to hear from you if you have the time in your busy schedule.

I have just read your book, The Two of Us. I enjoyed your thoughts and appreciated your bravery in sharing. I especially enjoyed how you described John's mum. When we are young we tend to look at life through the 'wrong end of the telescope' and it is only with age and more life experience we see things clearer. I am watching all the 'Morse' episodes again on Netflix. We often don't know the effect our life has on others but I find much solace from watching Morse. Like the character, I from working class background (my father was a coal-miner), worked my way through Uni to become a professional and now live and work in Canada. But my beginnings go with me. I am alone like Morse but the way John portrayed him, as being troubled but still getting on with the job, picks up my spirits and reminds me to keep doing what I can do. Looking forward to reading your other works. God bless. Tracey (a Yorkshire lass in Canada)

Dear Sheila, I've just read the Two of Us and it was a wonderful read. I really enjoyed it. I'm now reading Just Me and it too is ticking lots of boxes as I'm coming up to 68 years and afraid of my own shadow at times. You've given me lots to think about. Thank you for writing in such a wonderfully open and earthy book. Well done. My warm regards to you and all that you've done and are still doing. Maureen from Australia

I am Champagne Douglas from USA, I promise to share this testimony all over the world once my husband return back to me, and today with all due respect i want to thank DR EKPEN for bringing joy and happiness to my relationship and my family. I want to inform you all that there is a spell caster that is real and genuine. I never believed in any of these things until i loosed my husband I required help until i found ekpenlovetemple@gmail.com a great spell caster, And he cast a love spell for me, and he assured me that I will get my husband back in two days after the spell has been cast. two days later, my phone rang, and so shockingly, it was my boyfriend who has not called me for past 3 years now, and made an apology for the heart break, and told me that he is ready to be my back bone till the rest of his life with me. DR EKPEN released him up to know how much i loved and wanted him. And opened his eyes to picture how much we have share together. As I’m writing this testimony right now I’m the most happiest girl on earth and me and my fiance is living a happy life and our love is now stronger than how it were even before our break up. So that’s why I promised to share my testimony all over the universe. All thanks goes to DR EKPEN for the excessive work that he has done for me. Below is the email address in situation you are undergoing a heart break, and I assure you that as he has done mine for me, he will definitely help you too. ekpenlovetemple@gmail.com

In your book the two of us you observe that in years hence people will not remember John Thaw. I happily differ on your behalf. Although I love UK television somehow I had missed Inspector Morse. Last year I took my first trip to England and fell in love with Oxford. A friend there gave me Inspector Morse's Oxford on DVD and upon returning home to the US in June 2013 I consumed every episode of the series and was annoyed at myself for not discovering the talent that was Mr. thaw until 11 years after his death. I believe he will be discovered and remembered by many in years to come.

Whilst watching this weekends Endeavour, there was a scene at the very end where Endeavour looks in the rear view mirror in his car and the image returned is Morse, John Thaw... it gave me the most amazing shiver and goose bumps and I found it highly emotionally charged on two counts - firstly Morse (John) in Endeavour and secondly remembering the sad loss of the true Morse, John Thaw. Kind regards to you Ms Hancock, your John is still greatly missed. Christine

Just whom do you think you are Sheila Hancock? Against a fact that your radio show is banished to the \'wee small hours\', you are not popular, even among women (and I know an eclectic and numerous set of them), you are not intellectually balanced - in fact, not at all (and this morning I realised the \'fault line\' - the Northener who thinks she is sophisticated, of lofty cerebral matter yet cannot \'ditch\' the flat \'A\') and you irritate many more, many more, than you \'reach\' with your patronising, pontificating, holier than thou, drum banging, deep sighing and what I say is the only way, rhetoric and obtuse, myopic deliberations on all and sundry but always from an arch (grotesque - just ask the women I know) feminist view point. Well, bugger off from our screens. I repeat - you are a curmudgeonly bore and egregious in taking advantage of air time so typical of every other bloody (so called - your acting career, which I wish you and your cohorts would bloody well stick to...)celebrity of this and that profession. And stop rabbiting on and on and on and on and on about John...your grief is understood and of course to be unavoidably empathised with. But that\'s it - and like the rest of us with our own all encompassing \"family\", we have to get over it and get on with life without recourse to a public platform to effectively portray the essay of exorcism...Ms. Hancock, vitriolic and acutely direct though this missive is, it is, I promise you, representative. The majority with any sort of cerebral and/or societal application DO NOT WRITE IN IN SYCOPHANTIC, \"OH GOSH AREN\'T YOU WONDERFUL\", CELEBRITY IDOLISING TONES AND YOUR PRESENCE AND BOMBASTIC VERBAL MACHINATIONS THEREFORE ON BEHALF OF A MINORITY OF THE MORONIC IS INDEED EGREGIOUS AND FOUL. STOP IT PLEASE AND LEAVE US ALONE. Andrew Carr.

thank you so much for the information contained in your book just me:my friends had been trying to get me to go with solo holiday: I had a feeling this was not for me, reading your book:I know I would have been the one"you voted UKIP what sort of a racist idiot are you" or similar!one of the last trips we made together was Budapest so your chapter brought back many memories:did you not know that the language is the same that bears talk: we decided it was teddy gibberish. As for the house of terror,it was ghastly and as a Jew I found it even worse as they devoted so little time to the memory of those they were happy to send to the camps. So I too am making a life and I refuse to join the "widows" club: I have found it strange to be just me but now I have to learn who I really am and if I like me.So travelling again in a couple of weeks to Portugal never been there so no memories.Hey ho carry on enjoying your family and make the most of each day.Blazing saddles is a great film for a giggle!

Sheila Fantastic Radio 2 show! A friend has persuaded me to drop you a line to tell you about our music - The Portraits' content is all about message - lyrics about the world, about the forgotten. But it is all surprisingly upbeat. I think I've read somewhere that you are based in West London - we play St Michael's church in Chiswick next Friday, and if you think you can make it, we'll hold some guest tickets on the door for you - it's an amazing event as we're collecting UK voices for a song to save lives lost to blood cancer, in memory of my Dad. Full story here: http://goo.gl/Dcww5h Hope you are free to come - although I know you are doing many many things at present. Your book about John's illness and loss was a huge inspiration to my mum following the loss of my dad. I'll leave it there, and hope this reaches you. Best wishes Jeremy Millington

Hello! I'm not sure if you will recognise my surname but you used to know my grandmother Louis Everall of Netheravon Road in Chiswick. I used to play with Melanie and when visiting my mum (also called Sheila!) last week, came across a couple of photos taken at our house on one such visit. I would love to send you a copy if you are able to give me an email address? Bizarrely, I saw you at the Friends Meeting House in Hammersmith not long ago at the memorial service for a past colleague, Ruth Marshall. However, given the circumstances, I didn't feel it was an appropriate time to approach you and say hello. My mother has asked me to pass on her best wishes. Regards, Jill Everall

Dear Miss Hancock, I decided to write to you to express my utmost, heartfelt admiration at your late husband John Thaw. Recently I heard the theme from the "Morse" series and my eyes filled with tears for Morse. And I thought what a great actor John Thaw was to create a character that is absolutely alive, a real person whom you can mourn. I looked into his biography on the web and I found out about his lifelong love for you. I thought you must be a wonderful person and I wanted to share with you my admiration for him. I am from Russia and, unfortunately, I have not seen your own films but I will certainly try to.

As a matter of fact, short homecoming dresses 2014(http://www.pandadress.com/stunning-crossed-straps-vneck-military-dress-with-empire-waistline-details-p-728.html ) are well-loved by girls. You’d better choose a knee length homecoming dress which is appropriate for your age. It will give you a pretty and cute look. Especially for petite girls, a short homecoming dress with an empire waistline can create an illusive height of you. In addition, you can enjoy the dance time when wearing a short dress.

Dear Sheila We met years ago at Nailsworth when our daughter Hannah and your grandson Jack were facing their own health crises. Hannah is now fine and doing her GCSEs; I trust Jack is well too. I'm writing to you with my Quaker hat on because I'm now working at Jordans organising a programme of events for Chilterns Friends. The historic meeting house at Amersham is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and local Friends there are planning a relaunch event this Autumn. Would you be willing to come to Amersham and talk about being a (celebrity and) Quaker at that event? We're looking at the first two weeks of October but it could be a bit earlier if that's when you're available. Would you be happy to do that in principle? I do hope so! In friendship, Alex

Dear Sheila Hancock, I fell in love with Inspector Morse early on. I then wanted to learn more about the man who played him, John Thaw. I wept and laughed over your wonderful and touching book. You wrote in a way that made you both so alive. I miss him very much as you must do. I am having the delicious pleasure of watching all the Morse mysteries again. Hope your new play is a roaring success. Be well, and all good wishes. Ann

Hi Sheila, I have always admired your work and as a feminist growing up in the 70s you were and are a political role model for me. It was good to see a woman holding down a long term heterosexual realtionship with a man and that this too had the reality of stive. I then went on to love Morse and was really sad for you and for John when he died so young. I have been meaning to read your autobiography, the 2 of us, since it came out and have only just got round to reading it (on a holiday of a lifetime in Tanzania and Zanzibar!) I have suggested it to a dear friend and soul sister who has expereinced breast cancer and has an alcohol depenednt husband. we indeed came to see you in your 'one woman show' at the Sheffield Crucible theatre. Lisa has followed your hot tip of not not using your arms to lever yourself out of a chair, to maintain dignity into old age!! I have to say that I was gripped to your book on a number of levels. It was so well written and you had such an interesting story to tell that was rich with honesty of feelings. in addition I gained a lot from the historical content and the poetry and quotes from others. It was also a pleasant surprise to learn that you had been good mates with Clare Venables, one of our Sheffield own, if only on a temporary loan basis! Thanks Sheila.

In your book you say that "John will be forgotten" well, just wanted to say that I found, quite by accident, on you tube the memorial show you did after John's death, "The Unforgettable John Thaw" and after watching it I have revisited it just to see how many hits its had. Well, it's over 18,000 in a short time and it goes up by 1,000 every few days. So, that tells me that even though it's been nearly 12 years since his death he isn't being forgotten. Thought you'd like to know. Interesting that Melanie, who wasn't his child, seems to have loved him and understood him better than his own daughters. She really speaks lovingly of him.

I have just finished reading your book The Two of Us. I loved it and finished it in a day. I enjoyed reading your political views alongside the account of your life with John. I could relate very much to the emotions you expressed as John became ill. My partner, the love of my life, lost his battle with oesophogal cancer on 22 October 2012, almost a year ago. We also had a very turbulent and obsessive relationship and i recognise many similarities between John and my partner. Most of all our love was very strong and deep and real. His death has left me in despair and very much alone. But your book helped me in many ways to realise that I am not alone in going through such an experience. I am now going to read Just Me, and hope I will get as much comfort from that. Kenny wrote a book about his early life and his feelings of coping with cancer. I don\'t know what to do with it. It\'s special to me. The day before he died he was still planning our wedding. He also was determined and courageous, and never gave up The fight - Just like John. Your book helped me so much .

Dear Sheila, your husband was the most beautiful and sexy man I have ever seen. With the humility to not realize it. I just ordered your book. It was very cheap on Amazon.com, but I'm happy to say that the complete Inspector Morse films were expensive. I expect to be watching them for years. BTW my husband has made many (classical) song settings of Emily Bronte's poems, and written a three-part opera of Wuthering Heights. Which of course will never be performed in his lifetime (it's tonal/modal). Best wishes, Vicky Brago-Mitchell

Sheila, Thank you so much for your book, The Two Of Us. My partner has suffered from depression and has addiction problems. Everyone who knows nothing has offered so much advice, none of it helpful if you love a wonderful man like both you and I have. Your words, John's struggles spoke so much to me and helped us both. From the depths of my feelings, thank you!

Hi Sheila. I was new to portrait painting and went on a weekend course to learn to paint in oils. We had to choose to paint someone other than a friend or family...and I chose you. I would love to show you a picture of my painting. Everyone recognises it as you, so I hope that you would like to see it. How can I get a photo to you? Regards, Linda

I was very moved by your comments on a Radio 4 programme a few weeks ago when you spoke about end of life care and the need for people to be able to talk about death and dying in a positive and constructive way. I am involved in a project attempting to address this (my background is in hospices) and i wanted to get in touch with you about it. This may not be the best way to contact you but I could not find any other way to do it. I would really like to explain what we are doing if there is an address or e mail I can send it to. With kind regards from Liz Willetts

\r\nLife can be very displeasing especially when we loose the ones we love and cherish so much. in this kind of situation where one loses his/her soul mate there are several dangers engage in it. one may no longer be able to do the things he was doing before then success will be very scarce and happiness will be rare. that person was created to be with you for without him things may fall apart.\r\nThat was my experience late last year. but thank god today i am happy with him again. all thanks to DR BEN, i was nearly loosing hope until i saw an article on how DR BEN could cast a love spell to make lovers come back. There is no harm in trying, i said to my self. i contacted him via email: kingdomhabelspell@hotmail.com. words will not be enough to appreciate what he has done for me. i have promised to share the good news as long as i live.\r\n\r\nBESTY ADAMS \r\n\r\n

Sheila, just had to email to let you know how much I enjoyed reading `the two of us`.What a wonderful honest and moving account of two lives intertwined forever. It is rare also these days for men to truly express their love:not just in deed but also in words-spoken or written-as John did.You are a wonderful example of what being a decent human being is all about.Bless you.I am just about to begin to read `just me`.I wish I`d discovered your books earlier-but better late than never. The tv program on the Bronte sisters was enthralling.Cliched I know-but `keep up all your good work.Kindest regards.Martin.

My name is Kristine Helm. My life has been sour since i became a cripple at the age of 13 and this has really affected my living. I met Nelson during the Olympic when i was 24 years old and he was a very funny and caring guy who taught me how important i am to world. He made me understands been crippled is not the end of the world for me and i was very happy having him as my companion. Justin was a very hardworking guy and he promise to marry me before he left for business trip in China. Two months later he arrived from China and never visited me. I was told by my brother that Justin is now going out with my friend and this really broke me down cos he is the only one that truly loves me. No one wants to go out with me because i am a cripple. I and my brother traveled to South Africa to watch the world cup when i heard about temple of permanent healing. I never believe in God because i am a cripple and i believe that no one can ever make me walk again but when i heard about his great power, i decided to go there. I begged my brother to take me temple of permanent healing. I spent 7 days in his healing center and it surprises me that on the 7th day, i was able to stand and walk. The priest told me that Justin was under a spell and he prayed for me to destroy every obstacle in my life. I came back home and i was shocked to see Justin. He came and begged me for forgiveness, our relationship came back normal. I am very happy to inform the general public that i and Justin are happily married since October last year and i am pregnant. I know that people might be passing through any problem and i will advise you to contact temple of permanent healing because his miracle is free. His email address is templeofpermanenthealing@hotmail.com

My Name is Tatiana, I was married to my husband for 8 years and we were both bless with three children living together as family until 2011 when things was no longer the way the was [when he lost his job]. But when he later gets a new job 5 months after, he started behaving strange and don\'t even come home sometimes pretending that his new job is so tight. Only for me to find out that he was having an affair with the lady that gave him the job. Since that day, when i called him, he don\'t longer pickup my calls. Yet my husbands just still keep on seeing the lady. Until I met a very good friend of my who was also having a similar problem, who introduced me to this priest. But i told her that if it has to do with things that i am not interested, but she said that it has no negative effect. She gave me the spell caster\'s e-mail address and phone number. When i contacted him, he told me the requirement after the spell has worked so i decided to work with him. I was very shocked when my husband came home on the third day and started begging for all that he has done wrong to me and our children. This testimony is just the price i have to pay for the good work that this great priest has done in my marriage. This man is good and he is the author of my happiness. His e-mail address templeofpermanenthealing@hotmail.com

Hi Shelia, as I don`t have any other means to contact you I am using your website in the hope I may ask for your assistance for some information. I meet you many years ago when I was a young boy. My father was called Derek Cliffe and he knew you and your first husband Alec, he used to frequent the Carpenters Arms, as he used to live in the Ravenscourt area. He was also a big pal of the artist Ruskin Spear who also was a regular patron of the Carpenters. Other I recall were Johnny Briggs, Jim Ellis. My father died late last year and he left me a portrait of himself that Ruskin did of him, as a thank you for my Dad sitting in as a subject, and substitute for those people Ruskin was doing portraits of at that time, for those my dad was a similar build as(Fred Trueman I remember was one). The reason for my contact is that my Dad said to sell it if he died, and enjoy any money it may acheive. The portrait is unsigned as Ruskin said he didn`t want my Dad to sell it while he Ruskin)was alive. Anyhow a valuer said that If I could establish links to the artist i.e Ruskin, that would add weight to additionally authenticate it. I have Ruskin`s signature on a piece of paper he did at the pub and he gave it to me I remember, and he told my Dad that was all he was getting as a substitue for not signing the portrait! I was hoping that you may remember my father and Ruskin around this time in the 1960`s. If you do that would be great. I just wanted to try to establish a link of their relationship at that time. As my Mother is also not around I thought that you may be able to assist. If you remember any of this then I would be pleased to hear from you, either by email, 2001@thecliffes2001.freeserve.co.uk or mobile, 07818 060350. Regards Gary Cliffe

Saw you today on the Andrew Marr show when you wanted to talk matter of factly about preparing for death and how the British are too pc to do this - you are so right! Even with your approach they brushed you off as quickly as possible with a kind of 'oh we can't let death interefere with life' attitude! As you said we are all going to die and I wish, how I wish everyone could start taking your approach and talk to each other about it - families might be able to cope better with it as they do in nations where it is part of daily lives. Keep up the good work and trying to get through to people. I'm with you all the way!

Dear Ms. Hancock,\r\n\r\nI am going to attempt to remain polite for the sake of us both - not easy though as you irritate me in the extreme. \r\n\r\nNo doubt you have a following as it were but I am quite sure that following is minor even as a result of your own profession and the resulting interest (and, moreover, even with your wretched, saccharine, soppy drivel of a book), never mind the following amongst the wider public.\r\n\r\nThe BBC and media in general are to blame of course - first in their selection of public figures for the various formats they consider apt for appearances and contributions from in the main irksome \"celebrities\" and second in not recognising the need for constraint and less frequency. All this gives you and your Agency \'licence\' to whack on and on and on at every available opportunity. For example, and I said I\'d remain polite (but...!), if I hear you bang on about your husband once more I\'m going to go to extraordinary lengths to have you legally gagged. Jesus, I\'m sure it was and is grave, traumatic, and of course sad but you\'re not the only one and you\'re by far not as unfortunate as many. This introspective, self indulgent diatribe that comes out of your mouth every time you\'re on an air wave of any description, any format, is odious, tedious and quite frankly - and remember my comments about the wider public - tiresome and uninteresting. And so to why I\'ve written this morning - the newspaper review on \'Sunday AM\' is just that. It is to review the newspapers (and note your fellow sofa contributor and his comparative restraint and objectivity in discussing the issues of the day...) - It is certainly NOT the Sheila Hancock show and anyway, your intellect is pathetic. To state that you rejoiced over freedom from censure only to find the situation we all have to deal with today regarding the internet, is obtuse. Your sort of \'luvvy\', libertine, fraternity are exactly why we have the problem today because through this \'pinkish\' liberty without responsibility, we have just what we have to the worse extent that nobody is now brave enough to state that we need to get a good deal more disciplined, pay our dues for freedom, and censure those who don\'t behave within a code -and that was how it was in your \'hey day\' when you and your cohorts set off on your left wing tosh to overturn a tight, structured, society. Gay marriage is an example. I have nothing against homosexuality. It is a fact and I have quite a few friends who are gay (including my sister by the way) - but it is being promoted to the point of teetering on the edge of reason in so far as being more normal that heterosexuality. And your sort are responsible.\r\n\r\nMs. Hancock - get off our screens, get off our air waves and bugger off into the sunset - nobody\'s interested in you and certainly nobody with half a brain and sense of perspective and independence of thought. Nobody in their right mind is interested in being foisted on with regard to anybody, from any walk of life, and of your demeanour and drivel factor for example.\r\n\r\nYou are a bore. You\'re not funny, not intellectually stimulating, and you are extremely introspective (which is selfish and rude) and irritating (sic).\r\n\r\nAndrew Carr\r\n\r\n

Hi Sheila I am just watching you on the Andrew Marr Show (9th June). I have to tell you Sheila that I am full of admiration. I am now 60 and I only hope that I am as articulate and interesting as you when I am 80. I was particularly impressed on your views of death and dying which I also share. Your realism is what is needed in our society. I have now found your website through watching the programme and will follow your blog with interest. Josie

I have seen this many times, and please can someone put this on the stage and do it justice! Thank you, Simon\r\n

Hello Sheila, Ten years after it was published, I read The Two of Us: my life with John Thaw. I absolutely loved it, could not put it down, and cried at the end, not just because it ends beautifully, but because I was so sad to leave it! I loved reading about your lives and love. Some books and characters you just feel at home with. You can't move in with them, but it sure is lovely to visit for a while. The way you wrote about John was so much how I imagined him to be: an amazing actor and a fine human being with that mixed bag of joy and sorrow we all seem to have. Thank you for such a wonderful gift to all his, and your, fans around the world. Blessings to you and your family. From British Columbia, Canada, Rebecca Schram

Hi Sheila - have long been a great fan of yours, but am writing now with regard to your wonderful programme on the Bronte sisters. Watching it I felt you were a kindred soul who may appreciate the following: I have a hand-written book of poetry dating to about the 1820s, discovered amongst my parents possessions after their death, no idea of the provenance. I have spent years transcribing and researching it, and have it on a file I could send to you. It is almost entirely written by young women, and is tragically sad and doom-laden, and an amazing insight on what life was like for young women in that era. I would love to share it with you and hear your thoughts - please email me if you would like more info... thanks and warmest wishes, Sue Ellery

I have just finished watching the Bronte documentary having 'sky plussed' it at my parents house. I thoroughly enjoyed it and living in a tiny cottage about half a mile out of Haworth just below the moors I really felt you did the scenary justice; I go on and on about how beautiful it is to anyone that will listen but know that it has been on the big screen I feel my ravings are justified! Being a massive Bronte fan I also learned lots of new details about their lives. Thank you! Vanessa

Thank you, thank you for the Brontes. You felt their pain and I yours. I cried for them, for you and for me, for all our loss and loneliness. But how fortunate you and I are to have loved and been loved. How cruel they did not have that sustaining joy and that so few women do. Jackie

We enjoyed your programme on the Brontes very much - it showed your passion for the novels. Did you ever see the BBC dramatisation with Ian McShane and Anglea Scoular playing both Cathie and Catherine, and outside filming on the moors - this was the start of a lifelong interest in the Brontes, Tony's visits to Haworth (pre Joyce)and trudging the moorland paths, imagining like you the inspiration for the stories. It would be wonderful if someone could find a recording of this 1960s series and put it on DVD - in contrast with the Merle Oberon / Laurence Olivier film you expected the Goldwyn Girls to come on dancing at any time! Best wishes and many thanks, Joyce and Tony

I have just finished reading your book 'The Two of Us' I have enjoyed it very much as it has been like a walk down memory lane. So many of the names of people and places I am so familiar with having lived the first 24 years of my life in England. I thought you might be interested in what I know as 'two degrees of separation'. My Mother's birthday was the same date as yours, we were both in Bournemouth when the Coronation occurred and thirdly I am looking at a photograph of myself with some friends on Dancing Ledge. I was very lucky to have a Sunday School teacher who took us on hikes to various places and Dancing Ledge was one of the destinations. I am now 70 and the comments from your diary inserts really 'rang a bell' with me. It's so lovely to know that you are still a trooper! Best wishes, Maureen Olthoff, Australia

Hi Sheila, i have just watched the Bronte documentary and loved it!! I was at Haworth yesterday, it is my favourite place on earth. My son died 4 years ago and when i die i wish for our ashes to be scattered at Top Withens. Even though i am in tears, Thank you profusely for taking the time to do this project. As a child i used to spend a lot of time in St Marys graveyard at Scarborough and always headed for Annes grave. I wasn\'t a morbid child, my aunt lived on Castle Road so it was literally 100 yards away. Once again, Thank you. \r\nRegards Kim Lane

I have just watched \'perspectives\'narrated by you and I would just like to say that I was captivated and completely mesmorized by the programme. I have enjoyed all the works Bronte hollywood films but never actually read a single book! (I am ashamed now to say!) -However your narration of the texts was amazing - I stopped thinking about the dog hairs on the sofa and my irritation of not hoovering them all and the washing up that I hadn\'t done and became completely wrapped-up in thes sound and intonation of your voice when you read the words of the text. I was also fascinated by the biographies of the Bronte sisters having never previously been interested in them as authors. As my husband left for his night-shift I asked him to take me to Howarth to see the Bronte Museum - he grumbled about me watching a load of rubbish and left. It\'s not really his cup of tea so I shall probably have to go alone! Anyway you have introduced to the world of the Brontes and I will go over the Easter Hols to visit the museum (it\'s only an hour away - I live in Lancashire!) and I will buy one of their books (probably the Tenant of Wildfell hall which sounded very good!)and read it on holiday. So thank you, the programme you made engaged me so much and has educated me more.

Dear Sheila. I recently saw the advert about your documentary on the Bronte Sisters. I am so excited to see this on Sunday and I am so glad you have made it. Thank you! I wanted to write to tell you this, but also to tell you that I am directing a play called The Bronte Boy by a Writer and Producer Michael Yates. The play will be performed for The Bronte Society on Friday, June 7th at The Baptist Centre next to the Bronte Parsonage. It will also have two nights running at The Carriageworks in Leeds on June 28th and 29th. The play won several local awards two years ago when it was performed under a different cast and Director. The lead actor playing Branwell Bronte is returning, Warwick St John, so I am pleased he accepted the offer to revise the role again. He won Best Actor with the previous run. I appreciate you must be a very busy lady, but in the hope you may be interested, I would like to offer an invitation out to you to come and see the production. I saw your interview on Lorraine and you talked of the Brontes so passionately, as do I, and I would love if you could see this token production, surrounding none other than Branwells life story. It is a rare take on the Brontes, as a lot of books, plays, TV and film focus on the sisters. This is central to their brother and his tragic demise. I look forward to Sunday evening to watch your documentary. If you can make the production, we will reserve you a seat of course, free of charge. My number is 07919 277570, should yourself or your agent wish to contact me. I can be contacted on the email address here too. Thank you once again. Many kind regards, Marian Mantovani, Director, Act One Productions.

Dear Ms Hancock, Over the years you have appeared in many TV programs or films that have been favourites of mine, your wonderful role as Helen A in Doctor Who to name but one, but it was only when I looked at the cast list for the animated version of C S Lewis' "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" from 1979 that I realised that you provided the voice of the White Witch. I just wanted to congratulate you on that wonderful performance, as I always thought the voice of the Witch was one that I always considered to have been delivered perfectly - the gusto with which you delivered the lines was absolutely wonderful, and your talents gave the voice the essence of the pure evil and malice entrenched within the character. The line spoken as the Witch murders Aslan I find particularly memorable, with your expert delivery of "Despair and DIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEE!" My best wishes and fondest regards to you, and wishing you many happy years for the future. Yours respectfully, James Dicks

Dear Sheila. Hope you are well and happy new year. By the way, I was going to say if you don\'t want all your smelly candles, I\'ll take them off your hands, but then someone has beaten me to it - so just send me one and I\'ll be happy with that ! ;-) There\'s always someone asking for something isn\'t there!

Happy Birthday enjoyed watching you this evening on Room 101. You are very inspirational... I saw you a few years ago as I was recovering from Kidney Cancer. You mentioned having to get over hurdles in your life which in a funny way helped me get things in perspective. I agree with Kathryn; your scented candles could be very helpful to the Kidney Disease Charity. Cheers

Sheila,\r\nI have just watched you on Room 101 and laughed at your description of your cupboard full of unwanted scented candles. As a fundraiser for a kidney research charity I am constantly on the look for prizes for raffles and other events that we organise. If you would be willing to donate some of these candles or other unwanted items that you have we would really appreciate it. Kidney disease can have a devastating effect on people and their families but does not receive the publicity that it deserves. Supporting us in this way would make a real difference. Thank you.

Hello - listening to you with Clare Balding this morning I remember you first in rep at New Theatre Bromley back in the 50's along with Alec Ross - Joy Wood- Tony Beckley and others whose names escape me now - you spoke of not being a beauty but boy how you have made us laugh over the years as well as your amazing serious performances. I remember you particularly at Bromley in Panto usualy as a thigh slapping Principle Boy - legs that went on for ever - thanks for everything.

Dear Sheila I have been wondering for some time if your sister Billie is still alive and if so where she is. Billie and her husband Roy were such good family friends and always came to stay with us when in the UK. Although we have never met, I have always known you as Aunty Sheila because you would phone us to speak to Billie and I would go running down the hall shouting Aunty Sheila\'s on the phone. They are indeed very fond memories, she was always so very proud and loved you too.

Dear Sheila, I enjoy and admire your work and for some inexplicable reason feel you might respond to my plea if you get to read it. I'm appealing to you for help for my son who is autistic. His dream is to be a performer and he got distinctions in his BTEC diploma in Performing Arts. He went to Uni for drama and was desperately lonely, socially isolated and left earlier this year. He has been 'stuck', isolated and very unhappy since and I am very worried about him. He wants to audition for a drama school, but needs professional help to give it his best shot. Is there anyway you can help with a contact please? We are not well off, but will find money from somewhere to pay - we just want him to have a chance in life and his autism restricts him so much. He loves performing - it's easier than social interaction for him. It fulfils him in a way nothing else does. I do hope you will be able to help because we have no contacts in the drama world. Many thanks and Happy New Year to you and your family.

Living in the Middle East we are a bit behind the times! Loved your book about life with John Thaw. Please excuse my tardiness in expressing my sadness at his passing, and my appreciation for his work. Rarely does an actor create a character that becomes such a lovable part of our lives. I miss him. I know nothing about acting yet feel that some of the person must come through. The dedication to the art, the commitment must be enormous. I've not had the privelege to see you in many productions yet do have the privelege to read your books. Thank you. As an aside, while growing up I was fortunate to have "uncles" such as Tony Hancock, Spike Milligan and other Goon members. Uncle Tony would sit in our living room blowing bubble gum bubbles. I usuaually had to run up to the corner shop to buy a big box for him, This is not a misplaced claim to fame. I hope your career is going well and that your life is happy. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciated John Thaw and although I didn't know him, I loved him, and still do. His talent is sorely missed.

Hello For some months, the lady for whom I work has spoken of you (Sheila Hancock) and most especially with regards to a documentary that you presented that was set in Venice. Moreover, I have been set the task of kindly asking where you drew your inspiration for the dress/wardrobe that was worn. The lady of whom I speak is over 90 years and tends not to go out unless required. Increasingly, She draws inspiration and ideas from television and other media and so I would be most obliged if you can help with this matter. Warm Regards N Ward

You have been very public about your Quaker principles. Would you be willing, if a time could be found, to come to Milton Keynes to give a public lecture? Quakerism is so widely misunderstood as a 17th century sect which is absolutely the opposite of what it is. Thank you for considering this.

Hello Sheila Hancock , I've emailed The A Centre re your workshop/conversation with Clive Swift on Tuesday and hope to have my place confirmed. I've not been a member of The Centre long and this would be my first workshop there ! We said a very brief ' Hello ' at the Reception for The Actors Benevolent Fund at Clarence House in 2007. The ABF have been the most amazing support since my brain injury in 2005 and HRH Prince Charles ( a very proud Patron ) kindly referred to me in His speech on the day. I so much wish to carry on with my hopes to act as a career. It's been tough since the brain injury and on another ( medical issue ) my consultant kindly informed me that my body clock is ticking. Not a statement I would make in public in these fragile times ! The last 14 months I have been the sole carer for my mother ( who didn't know the circumstances of my own health ) and that hard work has recently come to an end with her passing from a Cancer related illness. Hence my intentions to attempt to progress with my ' career' . If I am fortunate in my booking re your ' Voices of Experience ' workshop - I am hoping you may find time ( ? ) for a quick snap on my mobile of the two of us together. I love acting and I LOVE actors ! The Reception at Clarence House in 2007 was such a thrill but of course We were not permitted to take photographs or even bring our mobile phones with us. This was hard for me ! I was about two feet away from James Bolam and I think he is the most talented actor. Love his work. I know perhaps it isn't the ' done' thing to do - having my pic taken with my favourite actors but it really cheers me - especially at this time of my life. David Essex OBE kindly obliged the other day. What a thrill ! I saw him in the West - End years ago with Sir Donald Sinden and meeting him ( briefly ) made me very content and is another pic for my scrapbook of happiness which I am intent on filling. Take care and hope to see you and Clive Swift this Tuesday. Regards, Aidan Caine ( ps the Actors Benevolent fund know me as Aidan F - my legal name )

My wife and I have only been married for a little over 6 months. We started having problems and last week she came to me and told me she wanted to get our marriage annulled. It completely broke my heart and I totally broke down. I have been praying and asking God to give me the strength and tools that I need to be the husband that I need to be and for any help to come on how to make the marriage move forward. My wife left my home and started seeing another man (her boss at work), my heart was fully shattered and destroyed because she was all i have and i love her so much. One Monday morning when i was carrying some passenger because i am a taxi driver, one of them talked about Priest of Temple of Permanent Healing and how he helped her. I collected his contact and when i got home that day was seriously thinking on contacting him or not until on Wednesday when i concluded on contacting him. He told me that a spell was cast on my wife by her boss and he said that he is going to destroy the spell within 3 days. It really surprise me when she came came on Sunday afternoon and told me she was sorry for all that has been happening. I was amazed with the good work because i taught i have lost my wife forever. He has help many relationships round the world and i believe that publishing his name will also save so many relationship. Anyone that is need of help should contact him through templeofpermanethealing@gmail.com Henry

Hello Ms Hancock, do you remember the TV Times running a Gemini Club competition? In October '69 when you still owned Mr Digby, I entered the competition and won, with my picture appearing in the TV Times. If you remember the picture, I was a scruffy student glowering at the camera and leaning on my Morgan. The picture did not say that the camera man had dragged me out of University Lectures to the nearby car park and that I was also bad tempered and covered in oil after a mechanical breakdown earlier in the morning. I got (and still have) the car badge although I don't remember a tee- shirt and I never got the chance to meet you for a two Morgan photo. Student lack of cash put paid to that, also my then new wife would not have been pleased to see me swanning off down south to hobknob with glamorous celebrities. I don't know for how long they ran the Gemini club for but I lost touch and never heard anything further. But I still have my Morgan ! It should be full renovated by Christmas and I might enter it for a few Concours d'ĂŠlĂŠgance. As part of showing the car, it would be nice to mention the Gemini Club and the link with yourself, but I would be happier if you know about this and that you give your approval? Who knows, maybe one day we might bump into each other and I could get my photo with my 'twin' ( I don't suppose you ever bought a Morgan again?) In the process of tracking you down I found this website and note the comments about your book 'just me'. I think I need to read it. I had three daughters, but the middle one, Sally, died 7 years ago at 27 years old in an accidental fall from the 6th floor of her flat in Paris. Her sisters and I miss her every single day but we carry on. As Sally used to say, "s..t happens;deal with it" Hope I haven't rambled on too much, Regards and best wishes, David Vickers

Just reached page 94 of \\\\\\\"Just Me\\\\\\\". \\\\r\\\\nIn 1956/7 I was supervising a group of girls in the manufacture of Radio at Philips in Mitcham, Surrey. My foreman handed me around six of the 200,000 from Hungary, none of whom spoke any English. They were eventually scattered along the production line and shown what to do by signing and demonstration. Within two weeks all the girls were speaking English with an accent that was the same as the girls around them. Such as Irish, Scottish, Cornish, cockney etc. They were all willing workers and were a happy bunch.\\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\nI like your book!6806 9644

I just felt the need to thank you for your wonderful book "only me." I must admit I was one of the annoying "morse" people, and an American to boot, and somehow via some google search on morse and your husband, I stumbled upon the book. I suffered the very sudden death of my mate from an accident 15 months ago, and had read a lot of tripe about loss, renewal etc. that provided very little that made sense to me or provided comfort. When I saw your book, I thought, what are the odds of a book I found via trying to find a way to video stream Morse actually being interesting, let alone worthwhile, but it was a wonderful gift. Like you, I am not terribly spiritual, but perhaps I was meant to find it. Your acceptance of despair as well as making the best of the hand you're dealt was a message I needed.Your acknowledgement that complete freedom may not be what we sought, or would even choose, but nevertheless opens the door to limitless opportunities is something I've been sensing, but you've lifted the guilt from it. And that when you're not tied, you're freer to observe the world. I was also touched because my dear departed father, whom I just adored, spent part of WWII in Bexley Heath in Hall Place as part of the German code breaking effort, so I heard about Bexley Heath all the time, so apparently you and he were there at the same time. I actually visited it and Hall Place and the Black Prince a few years after he died. I wish someone had given me your book earlier, though perhaps it's best read after the immediate raw grief has ended. I'm about 20 years younger than you, and after my partner's death, felt like without him I was just killing time for the duration, but your book has made me re-think that. Thank you so much.

you are wonderful! Dr ogogoro I had used other spellcasters and nothing worked. I was ready to give up. I had lost my job and my boyfriend had left me. I had you cast a custom spell for me, and it turned my life around. Within 2days of the spell casting I had a new job and a new boyfriend. I\'m so grateful that I found you Dr ogogoro before I gave up. I cannot thank you enough, ogogorotemple@yahoo.com! I\'ve recommended you to all of my girlfriends!

Dear Sheila Hancock, i have just finished reading your 2 books about your life , which i thoroughly enjoyed. If crying for most of the time can be called enjoyment ! I was friendly with Howard and Stella Goorney for the time that they lived in Bradford-on Avon. I had a pottery in the same building as Stella. Howard taught me how to bake bread. In 1976 i travelled to Peru with my friend Sally and one night up in the high Andes, with nothing else to do we went to the cinema. It consisted of a corrugated iron shed with the images projected onto a whitewashed wall. It was some Tony Curtis film that i can't remember much about apart from Howard suddenly appearing on screen..10ft high! There was dear old Howard with me 8,000 miles from home... Warm memories of them both. Thank you for bringing that memory back into my life. good luck to you roger holly

Hello, I met you when you came to look round EGA during the summer holidays. I thought you might like to read some historical facts which have just been posted on our website. If you google "ega" and select "about" and go down to "history of ega" there are photos and LCC inspection reports, which you may find interesting as there seem to be a lot of social history references. I would like to thank you for your kind words of inspiration given at my recent graduation. I left school in 1966 without any formal qualifications although managed to gain professional qualifications in surveying after many years of day release and night school. It wasnt until 3 years ago that I attended my son's graduation at portsmouth and I heard you giving your uplifting and inspirational speech then that I decided that I wanted more than anything to stand on that stage. Well this year I gained my masters degree and did just that. My son was in the audience and although he has struggled to find his way after graduating he remarked afterward how he felt truly inspired once again by your words. Your influence goes on and affects many people and I'm sure will continue to do so. Thank you once again - you made my day Sheila

You're appearance on the Piers Morgan show dispelled the fact that you were anything other than the down to earth character you have always played on TV. What you said about getting on life, no matter what it threw at you, reflects the post war generation that has been replaced with the bleeding heart generation of today (Can't cope, won't cope). I haven't read The Two Of Us but if it's as honest as others have said, then I can fully understand its message of despair at the loss of a loved one. We've lost two dogs and I grieved for them and got on with my life but the third one that was put down two years ago was different. It didn't go under its own steam, so I had two years of guilt to reconcile in my life. I was so distracted by this bad feeling that I cut through the lawnmower cable and stormed off for a couple of hours. I then tried breaking a branch that had come down in a storm, which flew back in my face giving me a bloody nose and a black eye. I hope I never have to make such a choice again. If you were shattered by John's death, I can fully understand it. Do your kids know Spike Milligan's kids?

Hi, I just wanted to say I've just read The Two of Us, I am supporting my husband who is going through cancer, he is only 49. A lot of what you said hit a chord with me, it's the most frightening thing I've ever been through and is ongoing, the future is scary. I thought you were very honest and showed that you aren't infalliable which has been comforting to me somehow. Cancer doesn't discriminate and is a very humbling experience. Again thank you for being so honest, it was totally refreshing.

I've just discovered from your book that you were an usher and knew Arno. Do you remember any further details about him? Any photos? It is possible I'm related, he was from Hamburg and the Wichbolds had Wickbold cousins from Hamburg but contact was lost due to the Wars I presume. many thanks for any help you can give me, Yours Dave Wichbold

Hi Sheila, I just wanted to say that I have read both your books and found them extremely moving. I live with my mum and brother, who is a drug addict, and I can imagine the pain that you went through. I keep watching "Inspector Morse" and "Goodnight Mister Tom" and find it amazing that John could perform so well and give such moving performances while having to cope with his illness. I think you are a very brave lady and wish you every happiness in the future.

Hello, I am a psychic medium and I didnt want to do this but John came through to me and he wanted me to tell you that he loves you and is with you every day and he is never far away from you. John is telling me that he was never good with expressing himself emotionally but it didnt mean to say that he didnt feel it all the same. You are his soul-mate whereby you understood each other and words were not really needed as the silence spoke what it needed to. He has noticed that you have been feeling below par as of late but he is watching over you like he said he would and he wanted to let you know that fact in the hope it would give you some well needed strength at this moment in time. You can contact me via the above e-mail but I dont want anything from you Im just passing on what John has to say Im for real.

Dear Ms Hancock, I was a young Yank fighter pilot at RAF Woodbridge in the early '70's. While visiting London in '74, I stopped by the Morgan dealership there--and bought your former Morgan. I still have it after 38 years. I've driven it everywhere--all over Europe and from the East to West coasts here in the US. It's just finishing its thrid restoration, and it is absolutely beautiful--better than new in many ways. I don't know if you read these things, but if you're interested, I could e-mail some recent photos. Sincerely, Allen

Hi I have just listened to your audio book about your life with John, nothing has moved me more, I lost my dad last year, and still have trouble dealing with it, now my mum has had to go into care with dementia, I found listening to your story somehow a comfort. i feel so alone and can relate to the way you felt at the time you wrote this book. I just wanted you to know you helped me. I will feel better one day I am sure. I loved John's work. Take care. Kindest regards. Barbara

Hello Sheila, I'm the guy who has wriiten a book celebrating Just A Minute and the one who presented Nick with his award for 800 shows.Love the website. Just a couple of questions.. 1.Can you put on your website when your next J.A.M. is please. 2.When you recorded the David Walliams 24 panel people - did they really record a whole show of J.A.M.? 3.When is your next theatrical piece ? I love anything you're involved in.You are a magnificent individual and an instinctive performer. One bit of advice when playing the new clan at J.A.M.- they are so picky on small words (repetition) and their adlibs can be intimidating - kepp your finger on your button. You are the Queen of Just A Minute. Please could you suggest a subject for our second annual Oxfam Just A Minute fund-raiser which is happening on the 7th July to raise money for Oxfam UK Poverty. Love you big time. You wonderful lady. Dear Sheila;\r\nIn the last week, I have hidden my tears and stifled the desire to shout “yes! You’re so right!” on the train going to work, cried for minutes in bed at night, and arrived late at work because I missed my stop. That’s how engrossed I became in The Two of Us...” \r\nI have long enjoyed you on television (I was anguished and frustrated to arrive in London a day too late to see Sweeney Todd), and was a huge admirer of John’s performances, most especially in Morse – what a delight it was to have a whole two-hours to become absorbed in a story, and to admire and appreciate the depth he gave to the character. \r\nTo discover that you are also a gifted writer was a happy surprise. To discover that your late husband, an actor I greatly admired, was truly a nice man was serendipitous, and I have to thank you for being so generous as to share him with the world.\r\nI miss a good book when it’s finished. And I miss this one particularly, because I have to give it back to the friend who, unasked, handed it to me to read. \r\nSo I know I have to buy it at the first opportunity, because I love to see the books I have loved on my bookshelves. And I’m obviously going to have to buy its companion, which I am looking forward to.\r\nI wish you continued good health and happiness, and thank you MOST sincerely for your superb and very moving book. \r\nMary Monks\r\n

Dear Sheila, I have just finished reading your memoirs, which I originally bought for my mum after my dear dad died very suddenly last september at 68 yrs. We both so enjoyed your writing about your interesting life and of course, your husbands. I was so moved by your brutal honesty and admire it very much. Its easy to pretend everything was rosy with the person who is now gone. I feel the loss of my dad tremendously and wish I could support my mum more-even though i know grief can not be avoided. Anyway, I am rambling. Have never written to someone like this. You are very inspirational. Thank you......Best wishes.x

Dear Sheila, I wrote to you at 194, Amyand Park Road, St Margarets, on 11th April, asking for permission to publish a letter you sent to Brian Glanvill, for his forthcoming book. Please contact me by e-mail so that I can send the letter again electronically. You are so amazing in doing so much, I suspect you hardly have time to be at St Margarets! Best wishes, from one Sheila to another.

Dear Mrs Hancock, I am a schoolteacher who works with a theatre company in Lyon France. I am currently trying to put together a one man piece, so I am currently looking at toehr stuff to get some inspiration. My mother was telling me about a review in a london theatre you did in the 70s which she saw and thought was very good. I've searched youtube, but to no avail. Is there a recording of it avaialble anywhere?

I heard you talking about taking up writing in later years and you have inspired me. Have been a journalist for over 20 years and at 56, thought it too late to write that book. It\\\'s not the first time you have inspired me. I remember being particularly moved by your story in Bel Mooney\'s mothers
